If you’ve been following my posts, you’ll know I need help choosing my next car. Right now, my choices are as follows:
2016 Lexus RC 200t (CPO)
First off, this moving gauge cluster is just delightful and pretty much makes up for my issue with the center clock.
Pros:
Heated AND Ventilated Seats (I feel like I can’t emphasize this enough)
Neat gauge cluster
Factory warranty still good until 2022
Cheaper than the BMW ($ 28,988 vs $ 31, 981)
Dealer is part of my bank’s authorized dealer network.
Decent color and sweet wheels
Nondescriptish means I don’t stand out
Cons:
Center analog clock
Mileage (~37,000) is higher than that of the BMW
B/C-pillar blindspot is pretty large, but it does come with blindspot detection
Trunk space looked smaller than that of the BMW
The autodimming side and rearview mirrors had a weird yellowish tinge to their reflected images ; not sure if it was because that’s how it normally is during a bright sunny day , but it was definitely odd.
Nondescript means I don’t stand out
Thoughts: Feels more snug than the bimmer, got mo re of a roadster vibe than the Bimmer during the test drive even if it slightly longer and weigh about the same.
2016 BMW 435i (non CPO)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Pros:
~14,000 miles!
MORE POWAH! I swear I’m not compensating for anything...
The “top view” camera is pretty useful
Tinted windows keeps out those unwanted photons
Better visibility; B/C Pillar blindspot is noticeably smaller than that of the Lexus
More interior room? I felt like it was more spacious in the Bimmer than the Lexus. Not sure why, but it is appreciated.
Murdered out visual aesthetics with M badging shows how cool I am
Cons:
Factory warranty expires 2020
Black on Black gets toasty in the sun
No ventilated seats
More expensive ($31,981 vs
$28,988
)
Non CPO; probably related to the damage reported to the rear of the car
Murdered out visual aesthetics with M badging shows how much of a badge whore I am
So there’s my main pros and cons list for both cars. I still need to see what sort of rates I can get from the dealers along with the price of extended warranties, which I’ll try to obtain and update this post tomorrow.
I would like your thoughts because none of my immediate family and friends are at all interested in cars and I regard your shitposts wisdom with the utmost respect.
Which would you personally buy as a daily driver for a commute of 40-80 miles in terrible traffic and empty highways?

The Lexus would be my bet if your doing that kind of mileage. It should be cheaper to run and maintain over time. Which is important to me in a daily driver. Also tint can be done pretty cheaply when compared to the price of the car. I had mine done to all the rear windows for $140 on my Camry.
This is also coming from a college student who had to finance a $5, 000 car when my last one got totaled. So most likely you could better afford the repairs and maintenance so total reliability may not be as big of an item on you’re list.

Interesting, didn’t know tinting windows could be done that cheaply.
And while reliability isn't number one on my list of needed features, I'd say it's top five at least.

Seems like the Lexus may be a better deal?
More importantly, that moving cluster reminds me of a Voltron key:

The price depends on where you go and what you want done. I have a guy in Michigan who did mine and drove to my house with everything and did it in my garage.

I’d get the Lexus, I have no interest in German bills later on. I want to see how far down the LC will get some day!

Ive talked about the RC before, but ventilated seats, Lexus reliability and a lower price outweighs the other things in my opinion. The reason that the cabin feels roadsterish is that the midsection of the chassis is lifted straight from the IS-C... The convertible one.

Some of your points can be changed easily ( badging, tinting).
Isn’t the 200t slow in that heavy car? I’d get the BMW because POWAHHHHH personally, but I would expect the Lexus to be cheaper to run.
Which one is more comfortable? That matters on a long commute. Lexus has a better stereo, I’m sure.

Which one makes you smile more?
When you park, which one makes you look back?

C urrently it’s the RC with that gauge cluster that makes me smile, but I’m not sure if that’s because it’s new and novel to me or if it’s actually something that will make me smile 3-5 years later.
As for the parking question, it’s the BMW. The blacked out everything is a head turned.

German bills are the most expensive bills

Yeah the 200t is slower since it is a smaller engine with roughly the same weight as the BMW.
As for comfort, they both have a bunch of adjustment options, but the BMW has the seat front extender thing which helps prop up your legs so your heels don’t get too sore. Both have bolstering and are on the firmer side, which is what I prefer.

I would take the BMW. It sounds like you’re slightly more emotionally connected to it. People forget that buying a living with a car is a mainly emotional decision then they overthink it and end up with something that checks boxes but doesn’t make them happy. Pro and con lists for cars are kind of the worst. I’d always recommend an interesting flawed car that you love over a car that has “just the right number of compromises”.

Lexus. If both make you smile then go with the oddball.

The
Lexus
will
be
cheaper
to
buy,
cheaper
to
maintain,
and
cheaper
on
gas.
If
that
matters,
and
they’re
roughly
equally comfortable,
it’s
an
easy
call
if
you
don’t
mind
the
power
shortage.
Comfort is critical for as much time as you spend i n the car. Personally, I haven’t liked the 2.ot drivetrain in the 2 Lexuses I' ve driven with it ( NX and IS).
